Growing with Guyana, Growing with its people

Growing with Guyana, Growing with its people

In one of the world’s most watched offshore growth markets, the Guyana story illustrates how responsible growth depends not only on offshore delivery, but on local value creation through strategic partnerships, investing in communities, and building resilience around operations.

With four FPSOs in operation and FPSO Jaguar anticipated in 2027, SBM Offshore’s growth story in Guyana highlights how local value creation, supplier capability, community partnership and environment stewardship support long-term responsible growth.

Guyana’s offshore energy sector has grown rapidly in just a few years. As SBM Offshore’s presence in the country continues to expand, responsible growth translates to growing with the country through local partnership, long-term capacity building, and local value creation around our activities.

Sustainability in practical terms

For example, through the Green Farms Initiative, SBM Offshore Guyana is supporting local production of fresh produce that has not been traditionally grown locally, helping reduce reliance on imported food while creating employment opportunities.

This initiative also supports cleaner food systems through irrigation and solar panel installation and strengthens small-scale farmers and institutions through knowledge transfer.

Gwenetta Fordyce, Operations Sustainability Lead:

“For me, the Green Farms Initiative is a strong example of sustainability delivering real local value. In Q1 of 2026, the initiative strengthened local food supply to our offshore operations while supporting local jobs. Beyond the numbers, it is helping reduce reliance on food imports, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to offshore teams, introducing cleaner systems through irrigation and solar energy, and building knowledge among small-scale farmers and institutions.”

The Green Farms Initiative is part of a tripartite partnership between SBM Offshore Guyana, Plympton Farms and Newrest Guyana. It includes a three-acre greenhouse at Plympton Farms, commissioned in November 2023, with SBM Offshore Guyana providing financial and advisory support, including knowledge transfer and HSSE training.

The Guyana case shows how sustainability can be designed and scaled around the realities of complex operations, with practical impact for communities and individuals.

Local supplier capability strengthens the ecosystem around our operations. Knowledge transfer supports higher operational standards. Local sourcing builds food-system resilience.  Environmental stewardship helps protect the places and ecosystems around our operations.
